Dr Irena Trbojević Akmačić is a biochemist and analytical chemist working in Genos as a Senior Researcher and Head of UPLC Laboratory for Glycan Analysis. During her graduate study in chemistry at Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb she was working as a volunteer at Ruđer Bošković Institute, Laboratory for Molecular Genetics, on expression, purification and biochemical characterization of recombinant proteins. After obtaining Master’s degree in chemistry working on cloning and isolation of elongation factor Tu from E. coli and exploring of its interactions with aminoacylated tRNALeu, she spent four months at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, developing a new method for glycans labelling. She obtained her PhD degree in Biochemistry in 2015 (Analysis of IgG glycosylation in inflammatory bowel disease) and in 2017 spent three months at Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg working on MALDI N-glycans characterization. She was appointed Deputy Head of Glycoscience Laboratory in 2015, Acting Head of Glycoscience Laboratory in 2016 and Head of UPLC Laboratory for Glycan Analysis in 2018. She attended a number of scientific training and conferences and participated in several FP7 and H2020 projects.
